The already substantial knowledge and experience within the VPS family increased again when Andrew Boakes joined us this year.
A time served on the job apprentice in Mechanical Engineering, further qualified by Crawley Technical College, Andrew was made redundant by an Engineering company during the recession of the early 90’s – then almost immediately snapped up by the forward thinking Westlock Controls team in 1993.
Andrew rose from internal sales to Sales and Operations Manager during his 24 Years with Westlock. There is nothing he doesn’t know about Westlock / Avid products, their uses or the solutions they are part of.
Even so, joining Valve & Process Solutions was an opportunity Andrew wasn’t going to miss:
“VPS was already the UKs leading distributor of Westlock products, before becoming the holder of the World’s largest inventory, so I knew them well.
When I heard this enthusiastic and already growing company was recruiting I had to have the conversation. I felt I could contribute a lot to the teams growth and success. It seems Steve agreed – the company really is going places and I love the enthusiasm!”
Andrew is “well up” for VPS being involved in the Year of Engineering 2018. #YoE:
“The term Engineering is very broad brush…” He told VPS Web Central “ …and does not have enough “wow” factor to entice school or university graduates, into the industry.
We need to up the image, communicate all the extraordinary roles available, the innovation and the positive exciting projects that affect everyone’s daily lives: From the products they all use, the way they travel, the way they do their jobs, and how all of this is made easier and safer by Engineers.
I would like to see young people being as excited about a future career in Engineering as I was about joining VPS.”
The VPS team is over the moon to have Andrew on board.
